We are currently seeking self-motivated individuals to work on a FDA sponsored research study the Evaluation of the Fresh Empire Campaign on Tobacco (EFECT).  As a Part-Time Field Interviewer, you will travel to participant homes in assigned areas and conduct research interviews with eligible youth between the ages of 12 and 18. These youths will be past respondents who have previously completed at least one survey. The interview is primarily ACASI (audio computer-assisted self-interview). 

About EFECT:
EFECT collects data from participants to understand attitudes and beliefs toward tobacco use, as well as media use. Data collected from this study will help researchers and policy makers understand the impact and effectiveness of public education activities aimed at reducing tobacco use and the health risks of using tobacco.

As a Part-Time Field Interviewer, you will…

  • Adhere to a schedule set by your supervisor that ensures respondents are contacted in a timely fashion
  • Administer an RTI-provided computer-assisted questionnaire to youth in the youth’s home
  • Contact households over the phone to collect parental permission for their youth to complete an online survey
  • Complete the required number of interviews by the end of the data collection period in an efficient and timely manner according to project protocols
  • Accurately complete all project documentation, including electronic survey instruments and all reporting forms
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with your FS and other project staff, objectively sharing your thoughts while displaying an understanding of project management’s concerns
  • Attend an in-person, 2-3 day paid training in early May. Attendance at training is mandatory. Trainees must successfully complete training and certification to continue employment on the project


  • At least 21 years or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Available at least 20-25 hours per week to conduct interviewing during the field data collection period
    • Available and willing to work primarily weekday evenings and weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
    • A minimum of 8-10 hours must be spent working weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
    • Available to spend at least 4 consecutive hours (not counting travel time) contacting sampled households and eligible adults during each visit to the field 
  • Reliable, personal automobile available for business use
  • Available and willing to work primarily evenings and weekend hours as required by your specific assignment
  • Ability to read text verbatim from a computer screen and paper documents
  • Must have regular access to a Wi-Fi or broadband internet for data transmissions

Pay Rate:

This position falls under the Services Contract Act (SCA). Hourly wage will be determined based on the county in which work is being performed. In addition to hourly pay, a Health and Welfare stipend of $4.27 per hour will be provided for up to 40 hours per week.

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.
